Ex 008 is about "Performing detailed inspections of electrical installations in or related to explosive atmospheres," including the aspects of explosion protection when performing initial, periodic, and sample audit inspections of explosion-protected equipment and installations. This unit focuses on the competencies required to perform these inspections.
To perform reliable inspections, the following topics are covered in Ex 008:
You have passed the exam when you have obtained at least 75% of the number of points:
The Ex 008 theoretical exam in English costs € 230,- (excl. VAT).
The Ex 008 theory exam in Dutch costs € 245,- (excl. VAT).
The cost for participation in the Ex 008 practical exam is €465 (excluding VAT).
If there are multiple candidates, contact the Royal PBNA to discuss group exam options.
After successful completion of the Ex 008 exam (theory and practical), you can apply for a 5-year IECEx CoPC.
In addition to passing the unit Ex 008 exam, there are a few more requirements for applying for the CoPC:
For the exam Ex 008, you have to prove that you are sufficiently technically trained. For this purpose, we ask you to send documents such as certificates from training institutes and professional qualifications.
If you work in an executive position, Ex 008 requires at least 3 years of practical experience working on industrial electrical installations.
If you have a responsible position, and you are a supervisor, for example, you need at least 3 years of relevant practical experience with installations in hazardous areas. These 3 years of work experience do not have to be in a managerial position; periods in which you worked under supervision also count. However, the work experience must match the scope of the certificate.
Proficiency in this area of competence is assessed simultaneously with or after area of competence Ex 003 - Installing Explosion Proof Equipment and Cabling, or area of competence Ex 004 - Maintaining Equipment in Explosive Atmospheres. Alternatively, competence in general electrical inspections is also sufficient.
Restrictions on scope will clearly demonstrate that the areas of competency apply to both those performing the work and those responsible. Restrictions on the scope of explosive protection techniques, a group or voltages are applicable to unit 008. Any scope limitations will be included in the application according to OD 502 (it can be found among the downloads at the bottom of this page).
