Ex 001
The unit Ex 001 - Applying the Basics of Safety in Explosive Atmospheres, teaches you the basics of explosion protection. The unit Ex 001 is required to take units Ex 002 to Ex 010.
For the exam Ex 001, you need to know:
How to prepare to work in explosive areas. This is by gaining knowledge about the nature of the explosion hazard in the area, and the risks involved.
How to assess the operation and condition of plant and machinery in terms of explosion protection.
What the established procedures are for the safe operation of plant and machinery in hazardous areas, and how to follow them.
What the equipment labels mean that indicate of the protection level (EPL) is of the equipment.
Exam Ex 001
Have you completed explosion safety training (Ex 001) and want to get your attestation? Then register for this exam. Do you pass it? Then you will receive an official certificate: 'IECEx 05 - Unit of competence - Apply basic principles of protection in explosive atmospheres'.
The exam consists of a theory exam with both multiple-choice and open-ended questions. The exam takes up to 3 hours (180 minutes). You pass this exam if you obtain at least 75% of the number of points.
Cost of an IECEx Ex 001 exam
The Ex 001 theory exam in English costs €230.
The Ex 001 theoretical exam in Dutch costs € 245.

Applying CoPC
With the attestation and with an evidence file (documents in which your work experience is recorded by your employer), you can apply for a personal certificate that complies with the international IECEx 05 certification scheme at Royal PBNA. This certificate is valid for 5 years and is internationally applicable.
