Unit Ex 004 focuses on "Maintaining Equipment in Explosive Atmospheres." This "unit of competency" covers the explosion safety aspects of maintaining explosion-protected equipment and associated wiring systems. It also covers maintenance schedules for these installations.
Ex 004 covers the following topics, among others:
To take the exam Ex 004, it is a requirement that you also have the knowledge of unit 001 and have passed that exam (attestation), or take it at the same time as unit Ex 004.
You have passed the exam when you have obtained at least 75% of the number of points:
The Ex 004 theoretical exam in English costs € 230,- (excl. VAT).
The Ex 004 theory exam in Dutch costs € 245,- (excl. VAT).
The practical exam Ex 004 in Dutch costs €465 (excluding VAT).
If there are multiple candidates, contact the Royal PBNA to discuss group exam options.
Zijn er personen in de groep die een aangepast examen nodig hebben? Neem dan contact met ons op via [email protected]. We kijken dan samen naar de mogelijkheden.
After successful completion of the Ex 004 exam (theory and practical), you can apply for a 5-year IECEx CoPC.
However, there are some conditions attached to this:
If you want to apply for a personal certificate that includes unit Ex 004, it is necessary that you have also obtained the attestation of unit Ex 001. Ex 001 is about applying the basic principles of safety in explosive atmospheres.
You must prove that you have sufficient technical training. For this purpose, we ask you to send documents such as certificates from training institutes and professional qualifications.
If you work in an executive position, you need at least 3 years of relevant practical experience in industrial maintenance.
If you have a responsible position, and you are for example a manager, you need at least 3 years of relevant practical experience with industrial installations in hazardous (explosive) environments. These 3 years of work experience do not have to be in a managerial position; periods in which you worked under supervision also count. However, the work experience must match the scope of the certificate.
The personal certificate has certain limitations regarding the types of explosion protection techniques, material groups or voltage ranges for which it is valid. This means that the certificate can be specific to certain techniques, certain groups of equipment or a certain voltage range.
Any scope limitations must be indicated at the time of application according to OD 502 (it can be found among the downloads at the bottom of this page).
