The Stipel exam NEN 3140 VP** (Skilled Person) is intended for people who independently perform electrical work and have access to switchgear rooms. The exam is often taken by fault or service technicians who work in switchgear cabinets, take measurements or repair or replace components.
Notice:
As of January 1, 2025, Stipel is implementing a new star system. Vhe certification will change for electrical technicians working according to the standards NEN 3140 (low voltage) and NEN 3840 (high voltage). The new system replaces the old Stipel scheme. Read more here.
To obtain a Stipel NEN 3140 VP** certificate, you must pass three exams. First, a basic test, followed by the certification test within which you take both a theory exam and a practical exam. The practical exam takes place at the location of ROVC Technical Training in Ede. The basic test and theory exams are taken at 60 locations throughout the Netherlands.
Registering for the Stipel exam
After passing all sections, you will receive a diploma and be included in Stipel's register.
You take the Stipel basic test only on the first exam of the designation. When renewing the same or a lower certificate, exemption can be given. This is only possible if you have passed the exam within 5 years of obtaining the previous certificate.
The certification test (practical exam and theory exam) is valid for 3 years.
