This "unit of competency" addresses the knowledge and competencies required to install explosion-protected equipment and the associated wiring system.
In Ex 003 you will learn to assess what is suitable equipment for a particular location, based on the specifications that apply. You learn to work safely and according to installation standards in hazardous areas. You will also learn how to maintain required installation documentation.
The Ex 003 exam covers the following topics, among others:
To take the Ex 003 exam, it is a requirement that you also have the knowledge of unit 001 and have passed that exam, or take it at the same time as unit 003.
You have passed the exam when you have obtained at least 75% of the number of points:
The Ex 003 theory exam in English costs € 230,- (excl. VAT).
The Ex 003 theory exam in Dutch costs € 245,- (excl. VAT).
The practical exam Ex 003 in Dutch costs €485 (excluding VAT).
If there are multiple candidates, contact the Royal PBNA to discuss options for a group exam.
Zijn er personen in de groep die een aangepast examen nodig hebben? Neem dan contact met ons op via [email protected]. We kijken dan samen naar de mogelijkheden.
After successful completion of the Ex 003 exam (theory and practice), you can apply for a 5-year IECEx CoPC with the certificate.
There are some conditions to that.
If you want to apply for a personal certificate that includes unit Ex 003, it is necessary that you have also obtained the attestation of unit Ex 001. Ex 001 is about applying the basic principles of safety in explosive atmospheres.
In addition, you must demonstrate that you have sufficient technical training. For this purpose, we ask you to send documents such as certificates from training institutes and professional qualifications.
To apply for the CoPC, your practical experience must also be demonstrated. If you work in an executive position, you need at least 3 years of relevant practical experience working with industrial electrical installations.
If you have a responsible position, and you are for example a manager, you need at least 3 years of relevant practical experience with industrial electrical installations in hazardous (explosive) environments. These 3 years of work experience do not have to be in a managerial position; periods in which you worked under supervision also count. However, the work experience must match the scope of the certificate.
The personal certificate has certain limitations regarding the types of explosion protection techniques, material groups or voltage ranges for which it is valid. This means that the certificate can be specific to certain techniques, certain groups of equipment or a certain voltage range.
Any scope limitations must be indicated at the time of application according to OD 502 (it can be found among the downloads at the bottom of this page).
