The NEN 3140 VOP (Sufficiently Instructed Person) exam is intended for employees who perform simple electrotechnical work with limited risk in their work under the supervision of at least a VP. Or for those who have access to switch rooms. These are positions such as operators, mechanical mechanics, IT workers and janitors.
Tasks that a VOP may perform under supervision are:
Simple operating actions, such as turning machines or equipment on and off. These operations do not require in-depth technical knowledge of the plant.
Simple switching operations, such as operating switches or resetting systems after a malfunction.
Replacing components, such as lamps, fuses, and other parts that do not pose immediate major risks.
Maintenance work, including cleaning equipment and performing inspections
Reporting unsafe situations. A VOP is also trained to recognize and report unsafe situations to a VP or other responsible person.
NEN 3140 VOP exam
The NEN 3140 VOP exam contains 30 multiple-choice questions. These questions cover the following topics:
Laws and regulations
Dangers of electricity
Designation of persons
Electrical equipment
Working safely
You have 60 minutes to answer these questions. You will pass and receive the NEN 3140 VOP certificate if you answered at least 21 questions correctly.
In addition to targeted training and examination, a written designation as a VOP by the employer is required.
