There are different types of VCA company certification: VCA and VCU. To obtain one of these company certifications, employees on the shop floor must hold a VCA diploma.

In de civiele techniek, bouwnijverheid, elektrotechniek, werktuigbouwkunde en overige technische diensten zoals het transport, zijn veel VCA-gecertificeerde bedrijven te vinden. Meestal kiest een bedrijf voor het behalen van de VCA-certificering, omdat opdrachtgevers dit als vereiste stellen voor het verkrijgen van een opdracht. Reeds gecertificeerde bedrijven stellen de VCA-certificering ook vaak als eis aan bedrijven waarmee zij samenwerken.

Bedrijven die een VCA-certificering willen behalen, zijn verplicht om aan te tonen dat medewerkers of zzp’ers waarmee zij werken in het bezit zijn van een VCA-diploma. Nieuwe medewerkers die nog niet in het bezit zijn van een VCA-diploma, moeten binnen 3 maanden na indiensttreding alsnog hun VCA-examen halen.
