F-gases category 2

Every technician who works on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment where fluorinated greenhouse gases or controlled substances can be released must hold an F-gases certificate. The F-gases category 1 and 2 exams are the most commonly taken. F-gases category 1 and f-gases category 2 are both suitable for mechanics working on stationary refrigeration systems, air conditioning systems and heat pumps. After obtaining the F-gases 2 certificate, you may perform common work on these installations. But there are limitations to this:

  • It is only allowed to recover refrigerants from small stationary equipment and mobile units containing less than 3 kg of refrigerants, or less than 6 kg for hermetically sealed systems.
  • You may perform leak detections but not open the refrigerant circuit while doing so.

The F-gases exam category 2

The F-gases 1 exam consists of a practical and a theoretical part. These take place separately from each other. You take the theoretical exam at a time that is convenient for you at one of the 70+ locations in the Netherlands. The practical exam takes place at one of the PBNA recognized practical locations: Techtec in Almere, Installatiewerk Noord-Holland in Amsterdam, ROVC in Ede and Installatiewerk Zuid-Oost in Roermond, Installatiewerk Achterhoek Rivierenland in Didam and Installatiewerk Noord, Oost & Flevoland in Emmen

Everything else will be ready for you, just like during the practical days. Just don't forget your work shoes and long-sleeved work clothes. The practical exam F-gases 2 takes 4 hours.
