Scope:
This unit of competency covers the explosion protection aspects of designing systems and installations in the field of electrical power and electrical controls and instrumentation. This requires the expertise to prepare design instructions and to develop economical and effective design solutions for explosion protection.
Pre-university education:
The applicant must have a level of technical education (or equivalent) relevant to the application, with documents such as a degree, diploma, certificates from training institutes, etc.
Minimum 3 years' experience in general electrical installation design or plant design
in hazardous areas under supervision.
Competence in this area of competence is assessed concurrently with or subsequent to area of competence Ex 001 - Applying the basic principles of safety in explosive atmospheres, and after competence in the design of electrical systems and installations has been achieved (see Annex A).
Limitations of the scope:
Restrictions on scope will clearly show that the areas of competence apply to both the people doing the work and those responsible for it. Restrictions on the scope of explosive protection techniques, a group or voltage apply to unit 009. Any limitations of scope shall be included in the application as per OD 502.
Exam:
You have passed the examination if you have obtained at least 75% of the points
Apply for CoPC:
After successful completion of the Ex 009 exam, the candidate can apply for a 5-year IECEx CoPC.
Cost of an IECEx Ex 009 exam:
The costs for taking the Ex 009 theory exam are € 195,- (excl. VAT).
