Ex 003 - Installing explosion-proof equipment and cabling

Scope:

This unit of competency covers the explosion protection aspects for installation of explosion proof and associated equipment and cabling systems. This requires the skill to select equipment in accordance with the equipment specified for a particular location, to work safely and in accordance with installation standards, and to complete the necessary installation documentation.

Pre-university education:

• The applicant must have a level of technical training (or equivalent) relevant to the application, with documents such as certificates from training institutes and professional qualifications, etc.
• For an executive, at least 3 years of practical experience with industrial electrical installations.
• For a responsible person, at least 3 years of practical experience with industrial electrical Ex installations relevant to the scope of competence for which the certificate of competency is applied for, taking into account the limitations of the scope.

Competence in this area of competence is assessed at the same time as or subsequent to area of competence Ex 001 ( Application of basic safety principles in explosive atmospheres).

NOTE This experience may include time spent under general supervision.

Limitations on the scope of the certificate:

Restriction of the scope of explosive protection techniques, a group or voltage are applicable to unit 003, Any restrictions of the scope shall be included in the application according to OD 502.

Exam:

You have passed the examination if you have obtained at least 75% of the points

• Theory: multiple choice and open questions and an available time of 75 min.
• Practical test: carrying out installation tasks, time available 210 min)

Apply for CoPC:

After successful completion of the Ex 003 exam (theory and practice), the candidate can apply for a 5-year IECEx CoPC.

Cost of an IECEx Ex 003 exam: 

The costs for participation in the Ex 003 theory exam amount to € 195,- (excl. VAT) and for
Ex 003 practical exam € 395,- (excl. VAT).
