According to the Working Conditions Decree, an employer must protect its employees from the hazards of suffocation, intoxication, poisoning, fire and explosion. Companies that receive, open and unload shipping containers must investigate the extent to which employees are exposed to these hazards. In many cases, this results in conducting gas measurements. Until now, no unambiguous training requirements have been established for gas measurement experts. As a result, the quality of gas measurements is not guaranteed.
The PGIC (Platform Gasmeasurements in Containers), which was set up in 2010, has decided to draw up standards for this with the support of employers' and employees' organisations and the government. These standards have led, among other things, to training requirements and completion of the training by means of an exam with a practical test.
PGIC has designated PBNA as the examination institute for the theory portion of the Secondary Gas Surveyor Sea Containers (MGK) exam. The practical test is administered under the supervision of KAGO Foundation.
